Gaits

The Icelandic Horse is the only breed to have up to 5 gaits: walk, trot, gallop, tölt and amble with as much amplitude and speed variation.

The Tolt

The favorite gait of the Icelandic Horse, the tölt is a natural gait, in four beats like the walk. Having one or two feet on the ground makes this gait particularly comfortable for the rider. The horse may present a slow, collected or elongated tölt.

The amble

Lateral gait in two beats like the trot. The limbs arise, however, by lateral bipeds. This natural gait offers incredible speed, "a feeling of flying". The amble is practiced only on short distance. Thrills guaranteed!
